General Information
Sul Ross Lodge, No. 1300 is a Masonic Lodge in College Station, Texas. We are a regular lodge that follows the ancient landmarks of freemasonry as set forth in Anderson's Constitutions of 1723; recognized worldwide under the jurisdiction of the Grand Lodge of Texas as Ancient, Free and Accepted Masons.
Sul Ross Lodge was chartered in 1947, and is thought to be the first known Masonic Lodge to have functioned on the campus of a state college or university in the United States. A unique feature of the new lodge was that among its members were the president of Texas A&M College, all of the deans, and almost all of the department heads. The sizeable number of college administrators who were Master Masons provided impetus to the growth of the new lodge which created almost 100 new masons during its first year of existence. In 1951 Sul Ross Lodge purchased the Dan Russell building at 312 Jersey Street (now Bush Street). It was sold in 2000.
